Basadi ba Mintsu - Mafalala Residency

Basadi ba Mintsu is about music, art and politics. The collective was in an artistic residency at the Mafalala Museum, in the Mafalala neighborhood - an extremely important region for the artistic and intellectual flourishing of the city of Maputo since the time of the country's independence in 1975. The residency was beautiful and surprising because, at first, it was to be a space for the girls to gather and create new music, but, nevertheless, we met with the story of the great poet Noemia de Sousa, who, through her writing, gave a voice to the thousands of Mozambicans who could not tell of their pains from colonial times. Noemia de Sousa, with her strength and resilience, inspired us to perceive the reality of the city of Maputo, a place where the Basadi ba Mintsu sisters also met. At the residence at the Mafalala Museum, the collective composed songs that will be on their EP. Thanks to the Director of the Mafalala Museum and to the entire technical team involved in this documentary video: the first artistic residency held at the Museum of Mafalala.
