ZU + INFINITIVE CLAUSES. A Special Kind of GERMAN SENTENCE
A sentence HAS to have THESE TWO THINGS: a VERB and a subject, or else it’s not a sentence. That’s what we’ve been saying, isn’t it. However, today we’re going to bend the rules a bit. Look a pretty much any sentence and you’ll see that it’s got a subject and a verb, and this makes sense because how else can you say that someone or something is doing something without these a subject and a verb? Well, you’ve got to know the rules before you can bend them or even BREAK them with any real confidence. Of course, there are some rules we’re not going to bend. We’ll have trouble constructing a sentence without a verb. And in some situations, you might even have more than one verb, but today, I want to look at one common way of using sentences without a SUBJECT, or at least an explicit subject. Confused? Let me show you what I mean. Check out our new Bausteine Shop: https://bausteine-eins-shop.fourthwal... There are of course lots of ways of explaining the same thing. We recommend listening to as many explanations as you can until you find one that makes sense to you. Here, we try to keep vocab simple and to introduce ideas and grammatical structures in a logical way, building on what we have covered in previous weeks. ABOUT US........................................................................... We're currently in Austria (in der Steiermark), but we’ve been living in Australia on and off since 2000. Together with my Austrian wife, Christine, and our daughter, we are a German-speaking family. Pronunciation varies throughout the German-speaking world, much as it does in the English-speaking world. My English usage is a mixture of Australian, British and Irish usage; my German is influenced by central German origins [Bonn] and the overwhelming influence of my Austrian wife :)
