In a two-day trip, we explore not only the highest mountain in the state, but also other natural wonders of the region. We begin our journey arriving in Maturéia, a mountain town with a mild climate. Officially founded in 1995, Maturéia stands out for its privileged location in the Serra do Teixeira, within the recently created Serra do Teixeira National Park, the first national park in Paraíba. On the second day, we had breakfast in the city and headed to Pedra do Vento, a still little-known viewpoint with a spectacular view of Pico do Jabre. Next, we began the ascent to Pico do Jabre, which, in addition to being the highest point in the state, is one of the highest in the Northeast. The site is part of the Pico do Jabre State Park, created in 1992 and expanded in 2002 to protect the local fauna and flora. The vegetation mixes elements of the caatinga and the Atlantic Forest, and the mild climate attracts visitors seeking trails, climbing, and paragliding – not surprisingly, Maturéia is known as the Paraíba Capital of Paragliding. After the climb, we continued to Lajedo do Jabre, an impressive rock formation, and visited Pedra do Caboclo, which holds ancient rock inscriptions.
