Deafheaven became a band known for defying genres and upsetting purist nerds with their 2013 breakout record "Sunbather" which blended black metal with elements of shoegaze and post rock, spawning a new genre "blackgaze." It pissed people off, but made guys like us happy. They followed up Sunbather with a trilogy of 3 records that almost have no relation to each other - "New Bermuda," their heaviest, Ordinary Corrupt Human Love - their most mixed, and "Infinite Granite" - a record that saw Deafheaven completely abandoning their black metal influences in favor of making some blandish radio friendly post rock songs. Now, they've successfully blended everything they've done and attempted to do as a band perfectly on "Lonely People with Power," their most fully fleshed out work to date.
