Large, oblong to elliptical leaves (8–30 cm long x 7–10 cm wide); Larger in young plants (occasionally 45 cm long) and much smaller in older specimens (typically 10 cm long), leathery, with a shiny, dark green upper surface, paler and duller on the underside. New leaves develop wrapped in a sheath (apical meristem), which grows with the leaf until it unfolds and the sheath falls. As in other members of the genus, the flowers are inside the false fruits (syconia) and are pollinated by a particular species of fig wasp (genus Pegoscapus) in a mutualistic relationship. The fruit is a small, oval, greenish-yellow fig, 1 cm long, barely edible, with only one viable seed. ✅Like other species of the same genus, it grows as an epiphyte on the trunks and branches of other trees. As it grows, it tends to develop aerial roots and buttresses to anchor itself to the ground and often ends up strangling its host, which is why it belongs to the strangler ficus group. Cultivation and Uses Trunk with Aerial Roots Ficus elastica is cultivated worldwide as an ornamental plant, as an outdoor plant in warm climates from the tropics to the Mediterranean, and in cold climates as a houseplant. Although it grows in Hawaii, the species of fig wasp required to allow its propagation by seed does not exist. Adult leaves with a new one at the stem apex still encased in the sheath. In cultivation, it prefers sunny exposures, but not high temperatures. It tolerates drought well, although it prefers humidity and thrives best in tropical conditions. Hybrid varieties derived from F. elastica, such as 'Robusta', with much wider, stiffer, and erect leaves, are more commonly used as ornamental plants than the wild species. There are many hybrids, often with variegated leaves. ✅When a wound occurs, latex flows abundantly, so when pruning, it is advisable to cover the cuts with ash or charcoal dust to prevent bleeding. Most cultivated plants are produced by asexual reproduction. This is generally done by planting cuttings or air layering. The latter method requires making a cut in the stem, spraying the wound with the oozing latex with rooting hormones, and wrapping it with damp sphagnum moss. The entire plant is then wrapped in plastic and left to grow for a few months. After this waiting period, new roots will have developed from the auxiliary shoots. The stem can then be cut below the roots, and the new plant is potted. ✅The tree's latex was used to make rubber before becoming Hevea brasiliensis. This sap is very irritating to eyes and skin, and toxic if ingested. #ficusrobusta #ficuselastica #veronicacampaniniplants ✔️ THE CHANNEL'S OTHER SOCIAL NETWORKS: 👉🏼INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/veronica.ca... 👉🏼FACEBOOK:   / veronica.bambu.58   👉🏼TWITTER: https://twitter.com/home
