When Army Staff Sergeant Carlos Mario Gómez Hincapié arrived at the Vélez Battalion in San Pedro de Urabá, he knew his transfer was just another of the many tests he had faced in more than 19 years of military service. What he could not have imagined was that in just a few days his career would end because he did what was right. Nor did he suspect that by following the laws and the rules, as he had been taught in theory, his life would be at risk.
