They achieved more than that – they young group quickly became known as the Antwerp Six and their design were soon available at Barneys, Bergdorf and Liberty of London. The Antwerp Six is a label known to many of us today, but these designers actually pursued their careers individually, they actually never formally collaborated or designed together – nevertheless, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, Marina Yee, Dirk Van Saene and Walter Van Beirendonck became the Antwerp Six which is probably a term more people know than the names of all the six individual designers. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the group that never formally existed and the MoMu Antwerp is dedicating a special exhibition to them.
