2003 HUMMER H1: The Most Capable 4x4 on the Planet

I get to drive some fun vehicles here on the channel, but never in a million years did I imagine that I would get to drive THE most capable 4x4 on the planet with an original HUMMER H1. HUMMER as a brand was originally a company called AM General, which was the company responsible for making military-grade High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle or HMMWV. This eventually became Humvee for those in the military. The Humvee had impressive stats, from its 16 inches of ground clearance, to its 60 percent slope climbing capability, and 60-inches of water fording capabilities just to name a few. The Humvee has a low profile (six feet tall), a wide stance (seven feet wide) and is 15 feet long. These proportions contribute to a stable, road-hugging vehicle that is very difficult to roll over. Fast forward several years and the civilian population began wanting a version of this capable vehicle for city streets and recreational use. Arnold Schwarzenegger is most famous for being the reason the civilian Hummer came to market. Arnold was the proud owner of the first 2 civilian model Hummers to ever be sold. As the story goes, in 1999 AM General sold the Hummer name to GM but continued to manufacture the vehicles while GM was in charge of marketing and distributing these impressive vehicles. When GM introduced the Tahoe-based H2 and Colorado-Based H3 models, GM also rebranded the original as H1. Learn more about the military past of this vehicle here: https://www.military.com/equipment/hi... I don't believe there are any vehicles on the road that have the presence that the OG Hummer does. Much like the Jeep Wrangler which traces its roots back to World War II but is FAR removed from its militaristic roots, this is as close to military-grade as the public can or could buy in the 90s and 2000s. Fun side note, just as HMMWV became Humvee and then Hummer, Jeep got its name in much the same way. The "Jeeps" used in the war were labeled GP or Government Purpose vehicles. That soon became "Jeep"...
