RECAP - All Japan Judo Championship 2020／ 決定版！令和2年全日本柔道選手権大会

With the support of the SPORT FOR TOMORROW programme, the All Japan Judo Federation brings you a recap of the All Japan Judo Championship 2020. SPORT FOR TOMORROW is an international contribution through sport initiative led by the Japanese government, which promotes sport to more than 10 million people in over 100 nations until Tokyo will host the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. It aims to deliver values of sport and promote the Olympic and Paralympic movement to people of all generations worldwide. The All Japan Judo Championship “Zen Nihon Judo senshuken taikai” is a national Judo competition with only one category: openweight. Before Judo gained widespread international recognition as an Olympic Sport, competitions were organized without weight categories. The “Zen Nihon” carries on the openweight tradition since the first edition took place in 1948. Japanese judokas consider this competition as one of the three major titles along with the World Championships and Olympic Games. Judoka’s earn their right to participate in this competition by qualifying through their respective regional open weight championships. This competition is traditionally held on the Japanese national holiday “Showa Day” 29-April, at the Nippon Budokan, the original venue for the Judo event at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic the 2020 edition of this competition was postponed to 26-Dec and moved to the Kodokan Judo Institute.
