The speedway with a capacity of 10,000 opened in 1977 and closed its gates 10th April 2021. In late 2019 it was made clear that the speed way had to close to make way for a train maintenance centre for the new Sydney Metro line that will open in coming years. A new raceway will be built in the suburb of Eastern Creek.
