Forty years ago, Dr. Youssef Tawk began a remarkable environmental mission: restoring the fragile ecosystems of Lebanon’s mountains by bringing back native tree species such as Cedrus libani, Juniperus excelsa, and Rhamnus libanotica. After years of research, experimentation, and many challenges, his efforts proved that these native trees could once again thrive in Lebanon’s harsh mountain environments. Since then, this cycle of conservation, planting, and regeneration has never stopped. In this documentary, we follow the journey of a Cedrus libani seedling, from seed germination to planting high in the mountains. We explore the challenges of reforestation at extreme altitudes and witness Dr. Youssef Tawk’s ongoing effort to create a trial forest above 2,800 meters, one of the highest reforestation projects in Lebanon.
