We take you on an extraordinary journey through history to the heart of the Kłodzko Valley, right on the Czech border, where the majestic Międzylesie Castle stands. This monumental fortress has ruled the area since 1370, witnessing the Hussite Wars, Swedish invasions, and fires. For the past two years, the property has had new, passionate owners. We decided to find out how they are coping with this enormous challenge and whether they are succeeding in realizing their ambitious plans. In this episode, we had the unique opportunity to grab coffee with Mr. Jacek Herberger, co-owner of the castle, who spoke about the daily, hard work of restoring the monument from ruins and about his plans to create a nature trail along the moat. Grażyna Herberger then guided us through the castle interiors, showing us tangible traces of history: original Renaissance sgraffito, former stables converted into a restaurant (with preserved historic mangers!), and the famous horse stairs, which the counts used to ride their mounts straight into the ballrooms. The real thrills, however, awaited us after dark! After visiting Gniew and Książ castles, it was time for a night tour of Międzylesie. We wandered the dark corridors accompanied by a guide styled as an executioner and actors playing the castle's ghosts. We witnessed the magnificent blend of history and modernity, thanks to 3D projections, moving images straight from Harry Potter, and interactive installations inspired by Hogwarts, which will delight both adults and children. Finally, we climbed the castle tower, from where we admired the breathtaking panorama of Międzylesie at night. Międzylesie Castle is a place where the love and passion of its current owners have breathed new life into its historic walls. Come, visit this magical place, and fall in love with it as we did!
