Why I Took Budget Lenses to Fiji and Didn’t Regret It

Bula! I just got back from a family trip to Fiji, and like any photographer, I had to figure out what camera gear to bring. But this wasn’t a photography trip—it was a family trip, which meant I needed to pack light, stay mobile, and avoid wasting time swapping lenses. For this trip, I brought my Olympus E-M5 Mark III and three lenses: ✔ Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 – Great for low light and small enough to forget it's in my bag ✔ Olympus 14-150mm f/4–5.6 II – The all-in-one zoom that lived on my camera most of the time ✔ Olympus 75-300mm f/4.8–6.7 II – For birds, planes, and anything far away Along the way, I shot from moving vans, boats, and even while biking. I also visited the Fijian mud bath, which—well, you'll see. 😅 In this video, I’ll show real photos from the trip so you can see exactly what this budget-friendly, lightweight setup was capable of.
