Indonesia-India Collaborative Cultural Heritage Conservation for Prambanan Temple

The governments of Indonesia and India are strengthening their cooperation on the preservation of world cultural heritage through a conservation and restoration program for the Perwara (ancillary) temples within the Prambanan Temple Complex. This ten-year partnership represents a joint effort by both nations to safeguard a UNESCO World Heritage site while further deepening a relationship that has spanned centuries. The initial phase of the program will focus on the conservation of 54 Perwara temples in the northeastern section of the Prambanan complex, utilizing technologies such as LiDAR, photogrammetry, and artificial intelligence (AI), alongside an exchange of expertise between Indonesia and India. Beyond physical restoration, the collaboration encompasses archaeological research, digital documentation, and capacity building for human resources in the field of conservation.
