Magog - Kingdom of Odin (2001) Demo | Swedish Black/Viking/Folk Metal

Magog was a Black/Viking/Folk metal band from Borlänge, Dalarna, Sweden, who released four demos and one single between 2000-2005, after which they changed names to Evangeli and released a single live CD/DVD. I originally came across Magog sometime in 2000 while perusing an old website known as mp3.com, which was something of an early version of what Bandcamp would come to be years later. At the time I was still very new to the Black Metal underground, but these guys instantly stood out, even though they were just a young band in their demo phase. The band played a melodic Black/Viking/Folk Metal hybrid, which still to this day sounds unique to my ears and I can’t immediately think of another band that they remind me of. This is just their second demo, which welcomed a violin player that added an interesting Scandinavian folk sound to their music. They would continue to evolve and expand on their following demos. Unfortunately, all the potential never culminated into a full album since they struggled to find a record label and ultimately broke up prematurely in 2008. These guys were also the first band I interviewed and had somewhat regular contact with, so they’ve always remained special to me.
