At 101 years of age, Ron Vickress reflects on a life of extraordinary service, creativity and community. Executive Producer and interviewer Bruce Woolley sits down with Ron for this intimate conversation, capturing the memories, wisdom and reflections of one of Australia's remarkable World War II veterans. Ron shares his memories of serving in the Royal Australian Navy during the Second World War, including life aboard HMAS Pirie, witnessing the aftermath of the bombing of Darwin, the Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour, and the surrender of Japan. Beyond the war, Ron's story is one of lifelong learning and giving back. A teacher, senior lecturer, playwright, poet, actor and community volunteer, he has written more than 40 books and over 50 plays, inspired generations of students, and made an enduring contribution to the cultural life of Armidale and the New England region.
