Looking into the levels of pollution in Lake Victoria

Until fairly recently, Lake Victoria's shores were characterised by clear waters, which were only occasionally darkened by run off from erosion during periods of heavy rains. However, today in many areas around the lake the water has turned green and this has been largely attributed to algae. The algae in the water is itself a symptom of a bigger problem, which is pollution. A lot of this pollution is caused by activities of communities around the lake and the tributaries that feed it. A team of scientists recently carried out tests on water samples in different parts of the lake in Uganda and Kenya, which hold 51% of lake Victoria. The results of these tests point to a worrying situation which if not checked could lead to the slow death of Africa's largest freshwater lake. #NTVNews Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter   / ntvuganda   Like our Facebook page   / ntvuganda
