Solar Impulse - Ground Vibration Tests
What happens when an airplane flies through turbulence and the pilot has to undertake extreme manoeuvres, meaning that forces are exerted on the longitudinal which are several times the weight of the wings? How stable is HB-SIA? Are the computer calculations and the simulations of aeroelasticity how the structure is distorted by air currents accurate? Do they conform to reality? To find the answer to this the Solar Impulse prototype was exposed for the first time to vibration tests on the whole aircraft.
