Using Electro Voice RE20 (Dynamic Microphone) To Record Meinl Percussion (Tambourine and Shaker)
I use the Electro Voice RE20 (a dynamic microphone) to record different flavors of Meinl hand percussion and focus on tambourine and shaker recording techniques, tips, and best practices Electro-Voice RE20 Broadcast Microphone- https://amzn.to/3SxXq4U Meinl Percussion Artist Series Soft Shakers- https://amzn.to/4kkgfVn Meinl Percussion 4-Piece Egg Shaker Set- https://amzn.to/4kjyCcZ Meinl Percussion- Wood Tambourine with Steel Jingles https://amzn.to/3ZdlM7I **SUBSCRIBE ** / @indiesoundlab **STREAM MUSIC HERE** https://open.spotify.com/artist/3qPdp... **ABOUT THIS VIDEO ** In part 6 of the music production series, I use the Electro Voice RE20 dynamic microphone to record some tambourine and shaker parts for the track we've been building throughout the series. I show you some of my favorite percussion toys from Meinl, great brand in Germany. I love their tambourines and shakers and I show you a few different types: single-row steel tambo, double-row tambos, brass tambo. I also go over types of shakers: from extra loud to soft to stage shakers. I also go over mic selection types (a dynamic mic or ribbon mic is better-suited to recording percussion than a condenser mic is). Whereas recording shaker uses a close mic technique, recording tambourine is similar to recording drums in that you have to record more of a room sound to record it well. The RE20 by Electro Voice (colloquially known as the EV RE20) is a dynamic microphone well-suited for recording percussion. Many use this mic to record bass drum (kick drum) because its unique body and construction allow this dynamic mic to perform well even at high impact transient levels. The same qualities that make the EV RE20 great for recording kick drum make it perfect for recording shaker, tambourine, and various other types of percussion. It's also a great vocal and broadcast mic as well!
