MORAR NA ROÇA É ATRASO. Por quê?

Many people grew up hearing phrases like: "Study so you don't have to work in the fields." "Those who succeed in life go to the city." "Those who stayed in the countryside were left behind." But where did the idea that living in the countryside is a sign of failure come from? In this video, I use the story of Jeca Tatu as a starting point to discuss a larger issue: how Brazil came to associate rural life with backwardness and the city with progress. The goal is not to romanticize the past or deny the problems that existed in the Brazilian countryside. It is to understand how knowledge, practices, and ways of life that helped build the country ended up being seen as something inferior.
