Which is the Positive Side of the LED? An LED (Light Emitting Diode) has two terminals, the anode and the cathode. The anode is the positive side of the LED, while the cathode is the negative side. To know which is the positive side of the LED, we must observe its physical characteristics and perform some simple tests. How to Identify the Positive Side of the LED Terminal Length: Generally, the longer terminal of the LED is the anode (positive), while the shorter terminal is the cathode (negative). Bevel on the Base: Another way to identify it is to observe the base of the component. The side of the terminal that has a small flat surface (bevel) is the cathode (negative). Why is it Important to Know the Polarity of the LED? Connecting an LED with the correct polarity is crucial because it is a polarized component. If you reverse the polarity, it will not light up and, in some cases, may even be damaged. Knowing how to identify the positive and negative terminals ensures you won't have problems with the operation of your electronic projects. LED Positive and Negative Terminals Understanding LED polarity is fundamental to avoiding problems in electronic circuits. In the video, we also show how to check if an LED is burned out using a multimeter. This is useful for keeping your projects in perfect working order.
