My KTM 890 Adventure R has reached 30,000 km. According to the internet, by now the engine should already be half dead. Scored camshafts. Destroyed valve train. A bike ready for the scrapyard. Today we’re stripping it down to the frame, tearing it apart, checking everything, and finding out whether the famous “camshaft gate” is really the final death sentence for the KTM 790/890… or if some people online have been talking a little too much. Guys, I’m telling you right now: YOU ARE NOT READY. Today begins one of the most absurd series I’ve ever brought to READY TO FAIL. At first, this was supposed to be one single, very long video, but then too many things happened, and I realized it would be impossible to tell the whole story in just one episode. In this series, we’re diving into one of the most discussed, feared, and hated topics around the KTM 890 Adventure R: the infamous camshaft gate. The issue haters love the most. The issue KTM owners hate the most. The issue that has basically become a BLACK SWAN event online. And we’re not talking about a bike that was used to ride to the coffee shop. Most of these miles were spent on mule tracks, dirt roads, sand, mud, crashes, missed shifts, hard revs, limiter, and real suffering. So, on paper, according to the “my buddy knows everything” experts on the internet, this bike should be absolutely destroyed.
