A huge portrait of the top leaders of the two parties and countries was hung in the center of Kim Il Sung Square, flanked by banners in both Chinese and Korean that read "Eternal Friendship between North Korea and China" and "Long Live the Unbreakable Friendship and Unity between North Korea and China." The national flags of both countries fluttered in the wind, and the welcoming crowd was jubilant and eagerly awaiting their arrival. When Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan arrived by car, a cavalry unit lined up to greet them, and a military band played a welcoming tune. Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju greeted them at the square. Xi Jinping and his wife, and Kim Jong Un and his wife, shook hands with their respective entourages. The top leaders of the two parties and countries ascended the reviewing stand together, and the military band played the national anthems of China and North Korea, followed by a 21-gun salute. Afterwards, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un watched the parade together. People from all walks of life in Pyongyang, including children, dressed in festive attire, held flags, flowers, and balloons, chanting slogans of China-North Korea friendship and expressing their sincerest welcome to the visiting Chinese guests with enthusiastic applause and cheers. Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un walked along the red carpet, waving to the welcoming crowds and children. At the end of the welcoming ceremony, colorful balloons bearing welcoming banners in both Chinese and Korean were released into the square. Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan then traveled by car to the Kumsusan Guesthouse, where they were personally escorted by Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju. From the airport to Kim Il Sung Square and from Kim Il Sung Square to the Kumsusan Guesthouse, North Korean citizens spontaneously lined the roads to wave welcome to Xi Jinping's visit.
