In this video, we travel along the entire inner carriageway, in real time and in 4K, starting from the La Pisana Interna service area, located just before Exit 1 - Via Aurelia. Construction of the GRA began in the 1950s, with the aim of creating an outer ring road to connect Italy's main roads and highways, reducing traffic heading into the center of Rome. The project was conceived as part of the postwar infrastructure development plan, led by ANAS, and is named after Eugenio Gra, its first designer. The first section was completed in 1962, but the entire ring road was not completed until 1970. Originally, the ring road had two lanes in each direction, but starting in the 1990s, a massive expansion plan began, culminating in 2011, which brought the entire route to three lanes in each direction, with sections enhanced by coplanar carriageways at the busiest points. The GRA is toll-free and is one of the busiest roads in Europe, with a daily traffic volume of over 160,000 vehicles.
