The stone remembers every tide that has ever come through here. The algae line on the walls is a thousand years of marks. The lanterns have been lit by different hands in every generation but they've always been lit, and the water has always reflected them. Tonight the alley is flooded to your knees. You're not here. Nobody is. The city doesn't need you to witness it. It has been doing this long before anyone was watching and it will do this long after.
