Is Your Tongue Different from Your State? | Ibn al-Arabi's Wisdom of Shith In this conversation, inspired by the Wisdom of Shith in Muhyiddin Ibn al-Arabi's Fusus al-Hikam, we reflect on how dua is not only related to the tongue, but also to one's state, capacity, habits, choices, and the direction of the heart. Sometimes a person asks for peace with his tongue, while feeding restlessness with his state. He asks for purity of heart, but does not begin cleaning his eyes, ears, and tongue. He asks for nearness, but does not close the doors that distance him from Allah. This conversation is not meant to accuse the person, but to call the dua of the tongue and the dua of the state toward the same direction. This conversation is not a place of final verdict or fatwa.
