Staying with the just-released S4 results, the country has officially transitioned from the traditional division-based grading system to a competency-based assessment. What do these changes mean for students, teachers, and the future of education? Faridah Nassereka, Senior Programme Officer at Uwezo Uganda, joins us to explain this shift. QUESTIONS: The Competence-Based Curriculum has been in place since 2020, but this is the first time we are seeing a new grading system at the UCE level. How does the shift from division rankings to letter grades benefit learners? There are complaints from parents today about what the results mean. What challenges have emerged with this transition, and how can they be addressed? Without Division One or Two rankings, how will schools and parents measure student excellence?
