“How do we look at the human body today?” – Ralph Gleis For over 30 years, Jenny Saville has explored the body – especially the female body – through portraiture and the nude. Her works confront us as viewers and as a society, asking: How do we perceive the body in a world shaped by ideals and visual culture? The title GAZE refers to the layered concept of looking – the gaze of the subject, the gaze of the viewer, and the cultural lens through which we interpret the human form today. With JENNY SAVILLE. GAZE, the ALBERTINA MUSEUM launches a new series of solo exhibitions dedicated to contemporary female artists. In ihren monumentalen Bildern thematisiert sie den Körper jenseits idealisierter Darstellungen – fragmentiert, kraftvoll, roh und zugleich sensibel.
