Jerusalem Lights Parashat Va'era 5781: Bending the Boundaries of Reality

This week’s Torah portion begins the countdown to the Exodus from Egypt, as G-d smites the recalcitrant Pharaoh and all of Egypt with the first seven of the devastating Ten Plagues. Our portion begins with G-d speaking to Moshe and making a clear differentiation between His identity as El Shaddai – the name with which He was known to the patriarchs – and ‘Hashem,’ the name with which He will now manifest Himself throughout the process of freeing Israel from Egyptian bondage. What’s in a name, you ask? Everything…G-d’s identity is the key to understanding the limitless, fluid nature of reality itself, and the events He orchestrates in Egypt will demonstrate that ‘reality’ is not at all what it seems to be. The Torah portion of Va'era (Ex. 6 : 2 - 9 : 35) is read on Shabbat, Shevat 3, 5781 - January 16, 2021 ___ Rabbi Chaim Richman Jerusalem Lights | Torah for Everyone Please support the work of Jerusalem Lights, a USA recognized 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit organization to enable these productions to continue and grow: Paypal: [email protected] or: https://paypal.me/JerusalemLights?loc...
