So many times I've heard from students "oh, I thought the diminished scale goes with diminished chords"... and I understand why people think that.. it's just not really the best choice when it comes to improvising and really HEARING how the chord works in context. It took me a long time to really figure out why I didn't like the sound of the diminished scale in those situations, but finally it made sense to me - after constantly getting this question from students and trying to simplify it into the easiest way to explain. So in this video I will go through some jazz standards that use diminished chords and show you how to REALLY improvise on them. If you enjoy this video, please check out my online courses and lessons for vibraphone. Thank you for watching! FYI I'm using Schlagkraft 'Big Mama' Tender vibraphone mallets. -Tim 0:00 Intro 0:13 Someday My Prince Will Come 2:38 Wave 6:07 Corcovado 6:48 All The Things You Are 8:20 Misty 10:34 Caravan #vibraphone #jazzimprovisation #diminishedchords
