One of the Longest MBTA Commuter Rail Equipment Moves on the Readville Switcher in Recent History

If you are interested in more content from me, my photography can be viewed on Instagram at:   / rail_spike_productions   About this video: On November 2, 2025, the regular Sunday MBTA Commuter Rail equipment move over the Grand Junction Running Track in Cambridge, MA featured 6 locomotives and 8 coaches returning to the South Side from Boston Engine Terminal. This impressive collection of equipment included leased PNLX MP20GP-3 2107 as the move’s power, 2 coaches and 4 locomotives returning south for revenue service, and the full “laser train” consist. The longer than usual move came to be as a result multiple factors leading up to this day. The previous equipment move to the South Side on the Friday before (October 31) had not operated, likely due to staffing shortages on Halloween. Additionally, Sundays throughout Autumn of 2025 were the most common day of week for the laser train consist to be returned south after weekend operations up north. The mix of two days worth of equipment being returned south and a whole additional set along for the ride as well led to this move being as extensive as it was. Shots in this video were taken along the Grand Junction in Cambridge, as well as at the Lansdowne and Fairmount stations in Boston after a consist rearrangement for the equipment to finish the trip to the South Side’s Readville yard.
