CHRONOLOGY OF ISRAEL-JEWS - As a Nation, Religion & Their Relationship to Zionism This one-day seminar traces the history of Israel-Jews from the roots of the ancient Israelites (descendants of Jacob) as an ethno-religious people, through God's covenant with Abraham to the formation of a united kingdom under Saul, David, and Solomon (which lasted only 120 years). The Bible records that ownership of the land (Eretz Israel) was conditional on morality and fidelity to the covenant. Therefore, when Israel disloyalty, through idolatry and injustice, was punished through the destruction of the Northern Kingdom of Israel (722 BC) and the Southern Kingdom of Judah (586 BC) and the exile to Babylon. God's chosen people were even permitted to suffer three defeats in war against other nations (Assyria, Babylon, and Rome), resulting in famine and three instances of cannibalism "people-eating" among Israel (God's chosen people) as the ultimate curse for their sins. So, Israel, as God's chosen nation, is not permitted to do whatever it pleases, insulting other nations. It's not that Israel will always win when they go to war. But God also imposes harsh discipline, even harsher, if Israel makes mistakes. Don't be arrogant, and don't be intoxicated with Israel. Although Israel has a long history of over 4,000 years, biblical history only records that the United Kingdom of Israel lasted for 120 years (40 years each under Saul, David, and Solomon). Afterward, Israel disintegrated, became a nation, and God even allowed it to be subject to pagan rule and the diaspora (during the Galut period). Therefore, all of this serves as a lesson: as God's chosen nation, arrogance is not to be tolerated. After a long period of diaspora, oppression, and the birth of the modern Zionist movement (Theodor Herzl, the 1917 Balfour Declaration, the Holocaust), the modern State of Israel was established in 1948. However, this seminar also criticized the "Israel-drunk" Indonesian Christian Zionism—unconditionally supporting Israel politically and theologically—while ignoring the suffering of the Palestinian people (including Palestinian Christians). There are even indications of massive "genocide," including the desecration of religious holy sites, carried out by the military of the modern State of Israel in recent times. This seminar emphasized that Abraham's promise (Genesis 12:3) does not justify any of the cruel, inhumane acts of the modern State of Israel, and that the New Testament teaches that identity as Abraham's descendants is determined by faith (Galatians 3:27-29), not by physical descent or ethnicity. This seminar reminds us that moral decay, injustice, loss of humanity, and arrogance will not last forever. God is Most Just, He who gives justice to the people.
