INHA Debates - What Ecologies for the Museum? June 26, 2025 In recent years, initiatives undertaken by museums and cultural institutions to address the ecological emergency have multiplied and taken on a wide variety of forms. These range from reinterpreting collections through the lens of their iconography and the media used, to reusing scenographic materials and developing carbon footprint assessments. How do these different proposals relate to the demands of a segment of society to respond to the environmental crisis? Do they have an impact on the awareness of those who, on the contrary, do not grasp the issues at stake? Does presenting artworks within a more eco-responsible museography and scenography succeed in conveying a meaningful message and fostering awareness and critical thinking about the museum?
