23 So Close, and Yet So Far | 1st Finished Room | 1 Year Anniversary | Scenes from the Valley

June is a beautiful time in the valley. Wildflowers are in bloom. The air is filled with sounds of birds and bees busy doing their things. Our restoration reached it's one year anniversary from when work first commenced. We also have our first completed "room" that is our cortile! The final piece of the retaining wall, nearly 9 weeks in the making, was set in place as well! Nearly all things that affect the structure or physical presence of the cabin is coming to an end. All that's left are the trades...plumbing and electrical as well as doors, windows, stair, railing, fire stove, paint, flooring, and kitchen cabinetry. We are so close, and yet so far. It feels like the calm before the storm. In the meanwhile, we had a wonderful excursion to a nearby Rifugio with friends from the States and enjoyed some sights and sounds in town. We hope you will enjoy the episode, as well! 0:00 Intro 0:52 Stone paving in the cortile 3:43 Friday night lights 4:13 Giro Donna 5:21 Starting the hearth and continuing stone paving 9:19 Screed floor layer starting 10:46 Can you say IKEA 14:54 Setting hearth stone 17:49 Cortile is finished 21:34 Strawberries and enjoying the finished cortile 25:53 Screed layer is finished! 26:28 Building IKEA cabinets & chalking out kitchen layout 27:57 Installing steel guardrail post brackets on retaining wall 29:04 Building and setting IKEA cabinets 29:32 Stone cap for retaining wall arrives 35:17 Sights and sounds from a weekend excursion 36:19 Cows parade through town 37:16 Continuing work - final veranda pavement stone laid 38:37 Building bathroom vanity cabinets 42:04 Stone veneer on column 43:00 Celebrating one year anniversary 44:39 Outro
