Kamgab to Ramansdrift | Riverbed Driving, Dassies & Sociable Weavers | Namakwa Ecotrail

Leaving Kamgab is harder than it should be. The drive out follows the riverbed, soft sand and rocky outcrops, and you're concentrating the whole way but it’s seriously fun. Gavin was in his element. The stretch up to Ramansdrift is about 80 km and the landscape keeps doing things. The plants along this section stop you regularly, strange desert species that you won't find anywhere else. We pulled over at a sociable weaver nest that had taken over most of a tree completely. Hundreds of birds, one enormous structure. Goodhouse is barely a dot on the map but the little store there had everything we needed and then some including fake eyelashes. We grabbed supplies, had a chat, and got moving again. Dassies scattered off the koppies as we pushed on, then over Henkies and the terrain started dropping back down towards the river. We rolled into Ramansdrift and followed the pebbly bank right down to the water's edge. Switched the engine off, got the chairs out, and had a late brekkie sitting right there on the river. Then we were in again for a swim while we figured out where the route was taking us next. 📍 Namakwa 4x4 Eco Trail | Ramansdrift | Orange River | Northern Cape 🔔 Subscribe for the full Richtersveld Ecotrail series. 📸 Instagram: @runwildadventures_za 🎵 TikTok: @runwild_adventure_za
