Eric Wang, guitar Appassionata by Ronaldo Miranda (b. 1948) --------------------------------------- About the artist: Eric Wang is a classical guitarist based in San Jose, California. He started playing at age 4 and studied with Robert Miler at the California Conservatory of Music. He studied music with Guitar Professor Meng Su of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Piano professor Stephen Prutsman at Stanford University. Eric is the 2026 winner of the Rose Augustine Grand Prize (1st place) of the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition. He was also named winner of the Guitar Foundation of America Guitar Competition International Youth Competition (2018, Youth Junior Division and 2020, Youth Senior Division), Parkening International Guitar Competition (2019 Youth Division), and Boston Guitar Festival (2024 Adult Competition). He was featured on NPR’s From the Top in April of 2019. He was named a 2020 National YoungArts Finalist, receiving the distinction of semifinalist in the 2022 Presidential Scholar in the Arts award. He is a three-time semifinalist in the GFA International Concert Artist Competition from 2022-24. Eric has learned from and worked with distinguished guitarists including Tilman Hoppstock, Sergio Assad, David Russel, Eliot Fisk, Manuel Barrueco, Raphaela Smits, Zoran Dukic, Benjamin Verdery, Judicael Perroy, and many more. He has worked extensively with various ensemble arrangements, whether that’s in vocal/instrumental duets, string quartets, guitar ensembles, or other unorthodox ensemble arrangements. He recently has worked with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and Viano String Quartet. Eric regularly gives concerts throughout California as a featured artist on the Reno guitar concert series, Orange County Guitar concert series, and the Vacavile CMARF concert series. He’s also recorded for a number of studio/concert series settings including the Omni Foundation guitar concert series, Guitar Salon International, NPR’s From the Top, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and more. Eric gave his orchestral debut with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra with Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.
