Gymnocalycium or commonly known chin cactus was one of the first globular cactus genera that established in 1845. Generally globular to compressed disc shape and has rounded ribs.All the species fetured with lateral furrows between the areoles.Genus occurs in Bolivia,Paraguay,Uruguay and south into Brazil towards Argentina. Gymnocalycium plants in general present no problems in cultivation, and will respond well if potted on regularly every two or three years, to make flowering size plants fairly quickly, some within two years from seed, and will provide some of the finest spination in the Cactaceae.
