Driver Bob Carroll recalls 43 years on the railways

Bob Carroll joined the Tasmanian railways as a teenager cleaning locomotives in Debonport. He soon became a driver and covered many routes throughout the Tasmanian network. Here he recounts some of his experiences from a career of more than four decades. Thanks also to the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) where this video was recorded. The QVMAG is in the Inveresk precinct in Launceston next door to the Launceston Tramway Museum. 0:00 Career timeline 1:57 Cleaner to driver 2:59 Steam & diesel 3:30 Blacksmith shop 4:30 The Roundhouse 5:30 Tasman run 8:30 Passenger rail ends 9:30 Tourist rail plans 10:45 Rail bugs 11:25 Workshop area 11:50 North-east run 13:35 Fingal coal run 14:38 North-west run 15:50 Derwent Valley 16:40 Derailments 19:15 Y-class loco 20:09 Diesel fleet 22:55 Multi engines 23:56 Queensland locos 25:30 43 enjoyable years
