Beginners Problem: Introducing Pressure in Piston Cylinder Device | Thermodynamics
Welcome to Engineering Hack! In today's video we are solving a basic Thermodynamic's problem. The problem tells us that vertical cylinder containing argon gas is fitted with a piston, and we want to determine the absolute pressure of the argon inside the cylinder. The problem requires you to know how does a piston cylinder works, balance of forces, with some other pure substance properties. Everything else comes by analyzing the problem and the system at hand. Problem statement: A vertical cylinder containing argon gas is fitted with a piston of 40kg mass and a cross-sectional area of 0.025m2. The atmospheric pressure outside the cylinder is 95kPa and the local gravitation acceleration is 9.79m/s2. What is the absolute pressure of the argon inside the cylinder? Answer: 1) 110.7 kPa In this video: 00:00 Intro 00:22 Problem statement 00:55 Problem analysis 03:04 Defining forces on the piston 05:15 Changing the weight to pressure 07:45 Final Thoughts đ Can you trust the answers and solutions provided? Well, you never should trust anything 100%. Make sure you are checking for yourself. When Iâm solving the questions, I always solve on my own and then check the results against other sources. If there is divergence, I look for more sources. So while I canât promise you everything will be 100% correct, I can promise Iâve done my due diligence before posting.
