Damage, capsizes, and abandonments are what make this great race so compelling. It is the era of pushing beyond limits and pushing beyond one's limits, of the challenge that must be met and the willpower that must always be found. The Route du Rhum is a fascinating event, a subtle blend of adventure and incomprehension. The Transat AG2R has long been a benchmark in offshore racing. Crossing the Atlantic on a 10-meter monohull, as a duo, is the kind of challenge that inspires you to give it your all. A blend of human adventure and sporting challenge, this race fills each participant's mind with emotion. The film "Les Jean de mer" (The Seamen) follows three extraordinary sailors who, in 2008, were more than ever at the heart of such an event. Through their eyes, we discover the inner workings of the race, as well as their distinct personalities: those of Jean Le Cam, Jean Galfione, and Jean Maurel. Jean Maurel, the race director and a highly astute observer, is aboard the catamaran that follows the race. Jean Le Cam is an extremely experienced sailor. He already won the Transat AG2R in 1996 and is therefore among the favorites. Finally, Jean Galfione is a former pole vaulter who has taken up sailing. He won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games. Tension, competition, even outbursts, but also contemplation and poetry are on the agenda with this unique and original encounter with the "Jean de Mer" (Seamen).
