Soloing Secrets - Robert Fripp

Hey gang! Here's the next episode of Soloing Secrets with Robert Fripp. I've had numerous requests to feature more from King Crimson and Mr. Fripp, and while I did put together a Chordplay surrounding King Crimson a few years ago, this is the first time we've looked at Robert's outside-the-box musical style and otherworldly playing techniques - so let's dive in! This lesson revolves around a selection of music pulled from six Fripp-related albums, and after the opening jam featuring me playing around with the song 'Water Music 1,' that features Robert's famous "Frippertronics" looping/layering device that he used and developed in the early 1970s. From there, you'll find we're hitting phrases, licks, and ideas from King Crimson's 'I Talk To The Wind,' a finger-twister from The League Of Gentlemen track 'Dislocated,' a few licks from the John Paul Jones song 'Leafy Meadows,' a flute-like phrase from 'In The Cloud Forest' that appears on a Andy Summers/Robert Fripp album, a rock-out chromatic lick from Nektar's 'Train From Nowhere' solo, and much more! Needless to say, if you're a fan of Robert Fripp/King Crimson, a viewer that asked for more from this legendary guitarist and musician, a player wanting to add some outside-the-box ideas to their bag of tricks, a guitarist looking for more ways to use loop pedals, or maybe you're just curious what all the fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you!
