Creating a Large Robot Metal Sculpture
The robot sculpture was commissioned by Downtown Phoenix Inc. and is installed on the southwest corner of 1 Ave. & Monroe in downtown Phoenix. It took roughly a month and a half to build, about two weeks to powder coat which was done by Specialty Coatings and about four hours to install. ------------------------------------------------ What the book say... As the sun touched the tips of the snow-capped mountain summits to the west, I continued my journey down the trail towards places my eyes have never seen. Over 100 miles into the wilderness, thoughts of family and friends drifted in and out of my wondering mind. Knowing they were going their daily routine of work, traffic, meetings and social media check-ins and likes. As I meandered through the tall bristle cone pines, I came into a clearing at the top of the trail. I could see mountains for miles. Beautiful pristine lakes dotted the landscape. The view was mesmerizing. I took my phone out of my pocket and took a picture then checked my location with my GPS map. In an instant, it hit me… I’m still connected! Have I become so dependent on technology that I couldn’t completely break free? I put my phone away. Smiled. And just stood there. I didn’t just look at the incredible view, I could smell it. The aroma of the pine trees, wild flowers and earth. I could hear it, the wind blowing in the trees. The rushing water of the creek off in the distance. The birds going about their day, talking back and forth to each other. And I could feel it, the ice cold water as I quenched my thirst. The ever-changing texture of the trail from rich dark soil to speckled lightning struck granite. From that point on I chose to disconnect with technology and reconnect with nature. It was on that journey into the wilderness that the concept for this sculpture was born. Break free every now and again. Take a walk. Read a book. Or just sit here and watch the world around you.
