In the summer of 1997, a Chechen delegation led by newly elected President Aslan Maskhadov visited Georgia. The Eduard Shevardnadze Center published a video chronicle of the visit. The center noted that Tbilisi wanted to restore relations with the Caucasian peoples, despite their role in the war in Abkhazia.
