Lamaru Beach, located in East Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, is a great example of a clean and well-managed beach destination despite being crowded with visitors. During the New Year holiday, Lamaru Beach was packed with tourists coming with friends, relatives, and families. Even so, the beach remained clean, comfortable, and far from looking messy or neglected. Trash was barely visible, food stalls were neatly arranged, public facilities were clean, and even the bathrooms and toilets were free to use—complete with special stalls for elderly visitors. Naturally, Lamaru Beach has characteristics similar to many beaches in South Kalimantan: the sand is not very white, and the water is not as clear as beaches in the Berau area such as Derawan or Biduk-Biduk. However, Lamaru Beach’s true strength lies in its management, cleanliness, and environmental awareness—well maintained through cooperation between managers, vendors, and visitors. With complete facilities, a spacious parking area, gazebos, a prayer room (mushola), and well-organized, clean food stalls, Lamaru Beach deserves to be an inspiration for beach tourism management anywhere.
