The Tu-128 is a Soviet heavy supersonic interceptor developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau in the early 1960s. The primary mission of the Tu-128-based interceptor system was to protect vast areas of the USSR from potential penetration by US strategic bombers. Therefore, its concept was based on the ability to conduct long-range, long-range patrols, coupled with high endurance and the use of long-range air-to-air missiles. These features made the Tu-128 a unique aircraft, which effectively served in air defense forces for decades, even after the advent of new interceptors such as the MiG-25.
