Oma's top young tuna fishermen, the Minami Brothers, take on longline fishing in the harsh ocean. Episode 38: Seihomaru Minami Brothers (YouTube Exclusive) In 2021, the Seihomaru underwent further modifications to the boat, following on from last season, to withstand long-distance travel, improving its stability and power for long journeys. In Volume 1, the first step in catching tuna is securing live bait. In Volume 2, after securing the bait, they quickly set sail for a distant shore and attempted longline fishing with 150 squid, but to no avail. On the way back to port, they miraculously achieved revenge by using their secret weapon: a drag-and-pull fishing method using artificial bait, catching a 65kg tuna. In Volume 2, they head out to sea three days later and successfully catch a gigantic 170kg bluefin tuna. In Volume 4, the tuna caught the day before is shipped to Tokyo's Toyosu Market. At 6am, Yoshikazu always checks his tuna's packaging before shipping it out. No other fisherman is so thorough. We also get a close look at the butchering and processing at the local direct sales store. From early morning departure to return, the grueling longline fishing on the open sea takes approximately 30 hours, making it a veritable survival game. Due to poor tuna fishing conditions off the coast of Oma in the Tsugaru Strait in recent years, the 24-hour tuna fishing expedition is a veritable life-or-death battle, with a 10-hour journey to the vast Pacific Ocean, several hours of waiting in the dark, and a total of 24 hours on board. At the Inari Shrine Annual Festival held in Oma Town every August, a fishing town-like festival is held where people parade through the town, praying for a bountiful catch and safe voyages, singing the enthusiastic "Dottoko" lumberjack song with enthusiastic cheers.
