Beyond The Uniform | Are Philippine schools really equal?

Speaker #1 Cabalsi: Main idea: Even though schools promote equality, gender stereotypes still influence what students study, how they're treated, and what opportunities they receive. Talking Points: Certain courses are still associated with specific genders. -Engineering, IT, and Criminology are often viewed as "for men." -Nursing, Education, Psychology, and Early Childhood Education are often viewed as "for women." These stereotypes can discourage students from pursuing careers they're genuinely interested in. Misconception is that gender stereotypes don’t exist anymore. Root cause of gender inequality for schools and universities. Examples of gender inequality that are school related. Speaker #2 Tomas: Talking Points: Social media angle: viral posts about hair policies show that Gen Z students see self-expression as part of dignity, not just rebellion. Good personal line: “A student can have colored hair and still be responsible, respectful, and academically serious.” Schools can maintain discipline without being overly restrictive about students’ appearance. Hair color, hairstyle, and clothing are often forms of self-expression, not automatically signs of disrespect or irresponsibility. Based on personal experience in FEU Tech, the school environment feels more open because students are able to express themselves through different hairstyles, colors, and styles. Speaker #3 Theo: Talking Points: Restrooms for member of LGBTQ amidst the gender discrimination Jobs and opportunities are not based on gender sexuality. Programs and courses are intended to open for every student who dreamed to be someday what they want Being a leader is not about gender.
