Bath, England. 6x O&K escalator ride in Marks and Spencer (M&S) department store, City centre.

Department store escalators - Character edition! We take a POV ride on all 6x escalators at the Marks and Spencer Department store in Bath Spa City Centre, southern England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. These have some real character with the typical O&K sounds and run very, very well! Installed by O&K in 1995, the main set of 5 are the type RTV-GE and the single one is an RTV-G (shorter handrail arcs than the GE). They’re similar to the RTV-TE and RTV-T, the difference being the metal rails between the handrail and balustrades… Enjoy! If you do, please like and subscribe. Plenty more like this is on the way... Often they were found at the side - here, you see an example of that… *You can also hear the difference in motor sounds between the main 5 and the separate one. Why the difference?… it’s the run speed! The main 5x run at the standard 0.5m/s but the single 1 runs at the inverted 0.4m/s speed. A common option on these to save power and wear. The motor sounds different, even though it’s the same motor. On escalators with the power save function it’s a lot clearer to hear when starting up! These escalators were very common in England. Chain stores like Debenhams, House of Fraser, BHS, other stores used to use them a fair bit. So did some malls. Unfortunately due to closures and relocations, many have disappeared! Other M&S stores have them too - for a while they stopped using Thyssen escalators all the time and went for O&K and in some cases Kone escalators. But now they’re back to using ThyssenKrupp escalators…
