La Califfa - Extrait 1

www.editionsmontparnasse.fr In the late 1960s, in an Italy gripped by social unrest, a factory goes bankrupt. The captivating Irene Orsini, nicknamed "La Califfa," finds herself at the forefront of the workers' demands following the tragic death of her husband. Annibale Doberdo, the factory owner, bypasses the unions to deal directly with the workers and quickly finds himself at odds with the factory leader. But behind the social struggle, a passionate connection blossoms between two people who seem to have nothing in common… The enchanting and magnificent Romy Schneider (Sissi, The Swimming Pool…) illuminates the film adaptation of the eponymous novel, written and directed by Alberto Bevilacqua, with an original score by Ennio Morricone (The Professional, Once Upon a Time in the West, A Fistful of Dollars…). La Califfa was nominated twice at the Cannes Film Festival in 1971, for the Grand Prix and the Jury Prize.
