I ventured to Agbodrafo, located 31km from the capital of Lome, the capital city of Togo. Here, illegal slave trading took place for nearly 50 years after it had been outlawed by England. Patrol ships regularly sailed along the coast of Togo to ensure slaves were no longer being brought westward, but for slave smugglers like John Henry Wood, the enterprise was too lucrative. I visited the home where slaves were kept under the floor to be sold onto the black market, years after Britain made the sale of human beings illegal.
